Kang Yatse-2 Expedition: Ladakh's 11-Day Trekking Adventure

• Relax and acclimatize
• Visit Leh Market in the evening

• Optional visit to Leh Palace
• Visit Shey, Thiksey, and Hemis monasteries
• Last-minute shopping in Leh Market

• We’ll start with a drive from the bustling town of Leh (3500m) to the last dropping point at Lower Markha village.
• It’s from here that we commence our trek towards Hankar village the next morning.
• Overnight stay in camps (3650m).

• Today we start hiking along the bank of Markha river which would give away the path to a striking landscape strewn with dry mountains.
• We cross the Markha river few times enroute.
• There are a few ancient chortens along the trail with monasteries as well.
• Overnight stay in Umlung or Hankar village (3850m)

• Begin walking beyond the last village of Hankar towards our campsite at Thachungtse.
• Kang eats commands the view today.
• There are sights of some fascinating geological creations enroute.
• Overnight camping at 4150m.

• Today we start our actual struggle for the climb.
• We gain an elevation of about 600m today to camp at the flat grounds of Nimaling.
• A lovely place to camp overnight.
• We cross few Mane and an alpine lake to reach here.
• Encounter Yaks, donkeys and cows around this region.
• The locals from below the valley graze their livestock out here in summers.
• Overnight sleep at around 4800m tonight.

• From Nimaling we hike uphill the small ridge to reach a higher pasture where we will find Dzo and yaks grazing.
• Through the loose rocks reach a point where we will get a clear view of Kang
• Yatse 2 & 1.
• We establish a base camp near to the stream.
• Overnight camping at 5050m.

• Take the day to rest and practice some technical skills – useful for the snowy slopes of the next day.
• In the afternoon, gain some height and acclimatize your body.
• A final check on your equipment.

• The summit day! Leaving midnight early, approach the edge of Kang Yatze II.
• In the beginning, walk on scree & moraine and then onto snow.
• At the snowline, crampons are applied and the rise follows.
• Gradual ascent up except the last few steep parts where you rope up.
• Reach the summit by sunrise and enjoy the great view over the Markha Valley to the West and
• Zanskar to the South; the rest of Ladakh & Karakoram to the North.
• Descend back to base camp.

A long and tiring day awaits you. The elevation gain (1100m appx.) today would be sharp.

• Climb back up and descend to Nimaling.
• Make our way to Kongmaru La (5250m).
• The descent is steep and we enter a narrow valley.
• We reach Chuskirmo, a little after the valley flattens out, and board waiting vehicles to take us back to Leh, a two hour drive.
• We descend to the small village of Chogdo, say adieu to our horseman, and from here drive to the village of Shang Sumdo and continue to Leh.
• Check into the hotel, rest, and relax.
